Privacy Policy
How Gesture Synth handles camera input, recordings, local preferences, and technical request data.
Last updated: 2026-08-04
Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to Gesture Synth, the free browser instrument maintained by TideSparrow. It explains what happens to information when you visit the website and use the camera-controlled instrument.
The core instrument does not require an account or payment.
Camera, audio, and recordings
- Camera permission: Gesture Synth asks for camera access only after you start the instrument and your browser displays a permission prompt. You can deny or revoke permission at any time in your browser settings.
- Local hand tracking: Camera frames are analyzed inside your browser to detect hand landmarks. Gesture Synth does not upload the live camera feed or detected hand movements to its server.
- Audio: Sounds are synthesized locally with the Web Audio API. The instrument does not request microphone access.
- Recordings and loops: When you choose to record or export, the browser creates the file on your device from the camera canvas and synthesized audio. Gesture Synth does not automatically upload, store, or back up these files. Temporary recording and loop data remains in browser memory until it is downloaded, replaced, or the page is closed.
Information handled by the website
Like most websites, the hosting infrastructure may receive basic technical request data, such as your IP address, browser and device type, requested page, request time, referring page, and error or security diagnostics. This data is used to deliver the site, maintain reliability, troubleshoot problems, and prevent abuse.
Gesture Synth stores instrument preferences, such as gesture-control settings, in your browser's local storage. After the first successful download, versioned MediaPipe model files are saved in the browser's Cache Storage so later sessions can load them locally. Your browser may also retain camera-permission choices and essential site preferences. This information stays on your device unless a browser feature or extension synchronizes it.
Third-party resources
The instrument downloads the MediaPipe runtime from jsDelivr. Tracking models are normally delivered from Gesture Synth's private Cloudflare R2 storage through a same-origin endpoint. If that download fails, your browser retries the Google-hosted model. jsDelivr and, when the fallback is used, Google receive the normal technical data associated with a web request, such as your IP address and user agent. Their handling of that data is governed by their own privacy policies.
The website may load analytics, advertising, or support tools only when the site operator has configured them. If active, those tools may process page-view, device, referral, or cookie information under their own policies. Camera frames, synthesized audio, loops, and exported recordings are not sent to those tools by Gesture Synth.
How information is shared
We do not sell your personal information. Technical request data may be processed by hosting, content-delivery, security, analytics, advertising, or support providers only as needed to operate the website. We may also disclose information when required by law or when reasonably necessary to protect users, the service, or others.
Retention and your controls
Camera frames, hand-tracking results, loops, and recordings are not kept in a Gesture Synth server-side archive. Data stored locally, including cached model files, remains until you clear the site's browser data or the browser removes cached data. Downloaded recordings remain wherever you save them.
You can:
- Deny or revoke camera access in your browser's site settings.
- Clear local storage, cookies, and other site data through your browser.
- Delete exported recordings from your device.
- Use browser privacy controls to restrict optional third-party scripts, although doing so may affect parts of the site.
Operational and security logs are retained according to the needs and settings of the website's hosting providers. If applicable law gives you rights to access, correct, or delete personal information held about you, use the contact path below to make a request.
Security
Local camera and recording processing reduces the amount of sensitive media sent over the network. However, no website, device, or transmission method is completely secure. Keep your browser updated and protect any recording you download, especially when it contains other people.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when Gesture Synth or its supporting services change. The date at the top of this page shows the latest revision.
