The first session feels different

Where a MIDI keyboard still wins

Fast parts and exact timing

Physical keys give your fingers a fixed target. You can repeat a note without aiming again, and velocity-sensitive keys give you a familiar way to play dynamics. For fast scales, repeated notes, or a part that has to sit tightly on a click, the keyboard is usually easier.

Gesture Synth can handle simple melodies and chord loops, but the camera has to see the hand clearly. A fingertip can disappear. Two fingers can overlap. A quick movement can be read as the wrong pose. Better light and slower gestures help, but they do not turn a webcam into a mechanical keybed.

Piano technique

If you are learning fingering, finger strength, reading, or pedal technique, use a keyboard. Gesture Piano can help with note order and rhythm, but it does not provide the physical feedback of a weighted keybed. It is an additional instrument, not a replacement teacher.

Larger production setups
